I shoot all of my personal work on film, typically 4x5 negatives, but I have also used other formats depending on the circumstances.

I hand process and print all my black and white work. All prints are gelatin silver. I generally do not make large prints. The negatives are printed to approximately 6x8 inches and then matted to 15x16 inches and signed in pencil below the mounted image. Printing in this size retains the sharpness and fine gradation of the original negative quite beautifully. It is a classic and very pure way to make a photographic print. The composition also begs to be simplified which has become part of my creative process. There is an intimacy to a smaller print as well, you must get close to it to view it and becomes something of an object in itself.
